YOUSRA BENABDELLAH GHAOUTY يسرى ابن عبدالله الغوتي
(b. in 1995), Morocco, initially pursued a Degree in Economics before enrolling at the Institut National des Beaux-Arts of Tétouan, where she graduated in 2021. Her artistic approach, shaped by her dual academic background, combines a critical analysis of the world with a strong aesthetic sensitivity. She continued her research in France, first studying Plastic Creation in Toulouse before joining the École Supérieure d’Art d’Avignon. Her work is driven by themes such as identity, memory, gender, and decolonization, drawing inspiration from marginalized histories and keen observations of the world around her. Through performative gestures often imbued with humor and cynicism, she highlights the tensions between body and territory, tradition and modernity, strength and fragility. Among her most notable performances, ROSES pays tribute to the mountain women of northern Morocco and the «mule-women» who transport goods at the Morocco-Spain border. Through this piece, she questions the weight of cultural legacies and the roles assigned to women, while reaffirming their power and dignity. Her interventions, whether in urban spaces or more institutional settings, aim to challenge the viewer’s perception and open a dialogue on deeply rooted issues in our societies. With a sensitive and committed approach, Yousra Benabdellah Ghaouty continues her exploration of the territories of the intimate and the collective, between revolt and poetry.
